The upcoming R-rated movie, The Housemaid, featuring Sydney Sweeney, is set to make its way to home screens soon.
In the psychological thriller The Housemaid, the pursuit of perfection is taken to extreme lengths, and any deviation is met with severe consequences. In this high-stakes setting, Sweeney portrays Millie, a woman employed as a live-in housemaid by the affluent and outwardly flawless Nina Winchester, played by Amanda Seyfried. Millie seeks to support herself and shed her questionable history through this role.
Deadline recently announced that The Housemaid will be accessible to viewers on Starz starting April 1. The film had its initial release on premium digital platforms and video on demand beginning February 3, following its theatrical debut on December 19. Directed by Paul Feig, this film, which is an adaptation of Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel, has become Feig’s most successful film to date and also set a new record for Sweeney.
According to reports, The Housemaid has amassed approximately $394 million globally, marking it as the most lucrative film in Sweeney’s career. This achievement surpasses the record previously set by Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which earned over $377 million worldwide. This comes as a significant rebound for Sweeney, whose 2025 biopic, Christy, experienced a dramatic box-office failure, including a 92% drop in its second weekend.
Amid anticipation for the upcoming third season of Euphoria, where Sweeney will return as Cassie Howard, the series is slated to premiere on HBO Max on April 12. There has been some controversy surrounding the series recently, as its composer Labrinth took to Instagram to express his frustrations with the series, candidly posting “double f**k Euphoria.”
Alongside Sweeney, The Housemaid features Brandon Sklenar, known from the Yellowstone prequel 1923, and Seyfried, celebrated for her roles in Mamma Mia! and Mean Girls. Seyfried is also busy with several projects including The Testament of Ann Lee, and is in production for Ted: The Animated Series, The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd, Skinny Dip, and is rumored to be involved in the sequel The Housemaid’s Secret.
It has been confirmed that The Housemaid’s Secret, the second novel by McFadden, will also be adapted into a film with Sweeney reprising her role as Millie, now working with a new family, the Garricks. Feig is set to return as director for the sequel, and Seyfried may potentially reprise her role as Nina.
The Housemaid will be ready for streaming on Starz from April 1.
