Formation of the UK’s Largest Independent Post Production Group
The UK now houses its largest independent post production entity following the acquisition of Halo Group by Envy Group. The specifics of the financial agreement remain undisclosed, however, both companies have announced that this merger establishes the largest private post production conglomerate in the UK.
This development occurs amid challenging times for the UK’s visual effects (VFX) industry, which is experiencing widespread layoffs and the recent closures of prominent companies such as Technicolor’s The Mill, Jellyfish, and Glassworks VFX.
Envy has been involved in notable projects recently, including the forthcoming Walking with Dinosaurs series produced for the BBC, as well as Netflix’s Building the Band. Meanwhile, Halo’s portfolio includes work on Netflix’s Alexander: The Making of a God and Disney’s Limitless with Chris Hemsworth.
The formation of this new group integrates the operations of Envy, Capture, Absolute, and Blind Pig with Halo’s subsidiaries Evolutions and Relay, which will continue operations for now. Halo’s co-founders, John Rogerson and Alan Jones, will assume significant leadership roles within the merged entity, accompanied by select members of their management team. At this stage, there has been no announcement regarding potential job cuts.
Envy’s CEO, Dave Cadle, commented on the merger, stating, “In a rapidly changing landscape, the amalgamation of Envy and Halo is focused on fostering a future where creative excellence is maintained without being undermined by scale or instability. It’s about achieving resilience through unity.”
Adding to this, Halo’s co-founder, Rogerson, emphasized the merger’s intent, explaining, “This initiative is not merely about increasing size but is focused on safeguarding our core values – our people, talent, and craftsmanship. Our companies have thrived on a foundation of shared values, including a passion for creativity and a commitment to client trust. Together, we are better equipped to manage and adapt to change.”
